San Diego Blacks Beach

http://www.metnews.com/articles/2009/conf102309.htm

On Friday, October 23, 2009, "The California Supreme Court has left standing a Fourth District Court of Appeal ruling rejecting a challenge to the state’s policy preventing nude sunbathing at a beach in San Diego County." A former state park policy that effectively allowed nude sunbathing as long as no one complained now remains revoked as a result of the California Supreme Court decision. The California State Department of Parks and Recreation in all likelihood will now begin (effective October) in a crack-down on nude sunbathers as the former Cahill policy is no longer in effect.

"Russell W. Cahill was the director of the department when, in 1979, he sent out an internal memorandum setting forth guidelines for enforcement of the anti-nudity regulation, California Code of Regulations Sec. 4322." (Link above to source) The Department, with respect to San Onofre State Beach, which included a section informally set aside for nudity along trail 6, will no longer follow the Cahill policy. The department cited population-growth as the reason. There were no public hearings. There was no input from the public solicited. "In 2008, the California Department of Parks and Recreation announced that anyone unclothed at any part of San Onofre State Beach would be issued a citation." -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Onofre_State_Beach#Nude_beach_.26_controversy

The state spent over $40,00 to fight nudists. (link below)

"Recent retirements among those in the CA Parks management team responsible for San Onofre have brought replacements who are intolerant of clothing-optional recreation. Instead of encouraging and allowing the cooperation of naturists in policing illicit activity, Rich Haydon, the new manager who took over at the beginning of this month, has featured the nearby sexual activity in his reports, using it as an excuse to request permission to put an end to recreational nudity at the beach. Haydon has reportedly represented to his superiors that a majority of those who come to enjoy the clothing-optional beach are participants in illicit sex there." (Source link below)

Todd's Desert Hiking Guide

In Todd's Desert Hiking Guide, he has a section on Arizona, with a subsection on Sycamore Creek. This would be the part of Sycamore Creek near the Beeline Highway. (Highway 87 becomes the Beeline Highway.) The page has a picture of the old steel water tank. Also, there is a picture of the Sycamore Creek itself. Apparently, there is some treacherous boulder-hopping necessary to get to the spot, so, wear excellent climbing shoes; not open-toed shoes.

In 100 Classic Hikes in Arizona, -by Scott S. Warren, the Pine Mountain Wilderness is mentioned, and the Prescott National Forest is shown on a map showing the Willow Spring Trail. The Sycamore Creek begins in the Prescott National Forest which is within the Pine Mountain Wilderness Area. This is Central Arizona, East of Phoenix. It is here that you will see the Ponderosa Pines. He describes a hike that will take you to Pine Mountain Summit. This trail follows Sycamore Creek, diverges a bit to take you to Pine Mountain, and then takes you to the origin of Sycamore Creek, depending on how you follow it. (ISBN: 0-89886-651-0.

Todds Hiking Guide

http://www.toddshikingguide.com/Hikes/Arizona/Tonto/Tonto11.htm

The above link is to Todd's Hiking Guide. The page that loads has an excellent description on how to get to the spot for Sycamore Creek where the nudists are. This guide, like many others, is written from a straight perspective.

Hippie Hollow, TX

Hippie Hollow is on Lake Travis. Located in Austin, it is a County park in a beautiful, natural setting that reminds one of the steep, rugged California terrain. (Scraggly trees, steep drop-offs, curvy switchbacks, etc.)

Hippie Hollow is the only public park in Texas where nudity is permitted.

The man-made lake is a fabulous getaway from the Texas heat and can make a wonderful side track for a visit to what must be Texas' most liberal city. Nudity is not permitted in the parking lot, however. You have to wait until you enter the park.

This park has been a skinny dipping spot since the 1960s. Beware of the limestone cliffs. Please do not just jump into the water!

Every Memorial and Labor Day there are big splashes where boaters and swimmers alike celebrate near the shore. It is like what a rave atmosphere should be.

Extreme caution is advisable when on the dangerous cliffs that border the soothing lake waters. It is easy to become distracted. There are easy-going nudists soaking up the generous Texan rays, dished out in Texan portions.

This is a definite bathing-suit optional destination for those who are at least 18. No minors permitted.

Take Comanche Trail, off RM 620. This is 15 miles West of Austin.

Address: 7000 Comanche Tr, Austin, TX

Sycamore Creek Directions

Post for anybody nude hiking at Sycamore Creek.

Sycamore Creek has several natural pools used for skinny-dipping. The area attracts mostly men and has a strong gay presence. Crowds can range from just a few or zero during the week to twenty on peak weekends. The creek gets peak use during spring and fall since it is iften dry in summer. Usually the little water left in the pools in summer is stagnant. Nude swimming and sunbathing are quite common here, but non-nudists sometimes show up too. The canyon is often cruisy. Be sure you take plenty of drinking water with you; it gets extremely hot there in the summer. Whatever you do....do NOT where sandals hiking in this area. It can be treacherous when boulder-hopping.

If any of the Phoenix guys want to comment on their Sycamore experiences for Gray....feel free. How is the water level in the creek and is it running! Still lots of snow up here in the high country.

The site is about an hour from Phoenix.

Sycamore Creek covers a very large area and is a secluded area with the creek and this time of year it could be running quite fast and deep...you wont know til you get there. When I lived in Chandler, this is how I got there>>>

Take Arizona Ave which is SR 87 and gradually it turns into the Beeline Hwy. Head north on 87 until you pass mile marker 212. Anyway, you cross a low bridge and just past the bridge is a turnoff to the right. Take that, cross the creek -- the road is kind of rough. At the "T" or "Y", bear left and follow that back. The parking area is marked by an old, rusty water tank. I always go past the water tank and park.

From there, you've got to hike and it's tough to explain. Basically you get to the creek, cross it, head upstream a ways until you see a tree on a bank on the other side...that' s the path back to the naked area. You will be doing some big boulder hopping but keep your focus on the path and then you will eventually come to a huge mountain pool. You will have to cross it some how or another to the other side then you will see the path begin again...keep following the path. Im sure you will run across guys there if its on a weekend and they can assist you. Any of the guys that get this email from the Phoenix group could put an addendum on this if they so choose. Good luck.
